2017 is upon us. Did it sneak up on you too? Take hold of this year! Here are the things you need to do now to start the year right!
- Pull your Credit Report
You get one free report from all three bureaus once per calendar year at www.annualcreditreport.com. It’s recommended to pull one report per quarter. Although not all things are reported equally, you can then monitor and protect yourself throughout the year from identity theft or identify opportunities to refinance. Look for irregularities because one zero can make all the difference.
- Negotiate the Numbers
All businesses and individuals share fixed expenses or the costs which are automatic. Think necessities–food and water, shelter and clothing–and monthly expenses–heating and cooling, internet, phone, insurance, gasoline, etc. Maximize your payment history and loyalty by negotiating with these billing companies. For example, your bank may not be able to budge, but talking to your insurance agent can help you find another discount saving you hundreds. Other areas to consider are with: accountants, cable or internet providers, realtors, landscapers, plumber, etc.
- Stay Secure
Have you checked your security lately? You transfer money and confirm your date of birth every other phone call and app. Think about that information in the wrong hands. All electronic devices–cell phones, laptops, tablets, etc.–are susceptible to harm. Back-up important information and photographs and have your cell phone provider recommend the right security for your needs.
- Get Going with Written Goals
What did you accomplish in 2016? Where are you going in 2017? Those who write down their goals earn, on average, earn 10 times more and are 42% more likely to achieve their goal.
